Camel & brights...

It seems ironic that I come back to University where I am studying Fashion and I loose inspiration for my blog.
I am taking a break from my 2,000 word marketing report on Barbour to make a post.

My love affair with Camel it seems is following me very much into 2011 - its time to pair the neutral with the bright, the alkaline with the acid...

"Dancer in the dark"

I absolutely love this photo shoot with Nylon mag and Mila Kunis.
I watched the 'Black Swan' last night - I have to admit not exactly what I expected but still a great film.  "As taut as a ligament, it's a gripping thriller with astonishing performances" (Luke Crisell, Nylon).

Mila Kunis is beautiful - you can't help but notice her twiggy-like eyes first.  They are huge.

Thongs = Weapons of ass destruction! (Company Magazine)

"The thong should have been left on sumo wrestlers.  It's like dental floss for the arse." - Jameela, Company Magazine.

I concur.

Trend: You do the Legwork!

Tights, Socks & Leggings with a twist are all the rage this season.
Whether you have opted for a graphic pair of leggings, a floral pair of tights or some of your Dad's old socks, the more extravagant the better!
Leggings were first seen in the 80's and regarded as the most comfortable item of leg-wear, since then they just keep popping up!  This season is all about wearing leggings in new materials, graphics and colours.  They are such a diverse item of clothing that can be worn dressed down or dressed up!

Tights compliment just about any outfit & you shouldn't be afraid to clash polka dots with stripes.
Socks, socks & more socks - I can just not have enough of these.  Whether they are stolen from my Dad's draw (he has great chunky hiking socks!), invested from Urban Outfitters or found in Primark - I love them and they have a great way of completing an outfit.  This winter I have been wearing my trusty socks with all of my Ankle boots but I am looking forward to the sun shining & wearing them with brogues and.... SANDALS!  This summer seems to be all about wearing a pair of cast off Jesus sandals with a pair of feminine patterned socks - better still, wear those socks on top of a pair of clashing tights.
American Urban Outfitters seem to be ticking all the right boxes!

Urban Outfitters US - I love.

I am yet to have bought my Jesus Sandals - so I will make do with my
wedges for now!

Glamour Internship.

The Christmas holidays have been very productive for me...
I secured a 4 week internship at Glamour magazine for the Easter holidays.

My current aspiration is to eventually work for a fashion magazine coordinating their events.  So... as you can imagine, i literally could not believe my luck when, within one hour of emailing the Editor's PA i had organised this work experience.

I cannot wait...lets hope i make a good impression!

Ardingly Antiques

So, I'm back a day from New York & already off to do some more shopping with the Mother.

Ardingly - a short drive away, holds an antiques fair about 6 times a year.
Lucky for me, there are many Vintage stalls too! - The amount of fur jackets around was amazing, but just how long will they be about for?

I love the leopard print handbag - unfortunately £150 is a little out of my price range.

A stall owner whose laid back style i enjoyed.

My vintage Jaegar Shirt purchase - £10

My 70s frilly Blouse purchase - £15

I heart.

Green Flea Fingers...

Every Sunday in the Upper West side of NY is a flea market.
Set in a very typical American school, it harbours antique furniture, ornaments, vintage handbags & retro dresses.

I bought a night shirt which i will wear as a blouse, a butterfly brooch, some sort of fur brooch & a pendant.
Lovely.

What did I buy?

Take a look at my purchases from the Big Apple.
Make up & facial products are too cheap!

$10 Vintage Blouse from Flea market

High Waisted Shorts - Ressurection Vintage clothing.

A few American Mags - I heart NYLON

Two brooches & a pendant - all for $30 at a flea market.

Some cheeky chewing gum...

The lot.

New York, New York

I am back from a 5 day university trip to NYC.

It was an eclectic mix of shopping, sightseeing & socialising.

I personally did not buy a great deal (well.. for me anyway!), the shops that i adored the most were a tad out of my price range.  We popped into Macy's & Bloomingdales, the popular department stores but i feel in love with all the boutiques and vintage stores in East Village and the surrounding areas of Greenwich and Soho.  We began the day with an amazing breakfast in 'Clinton St Bakery', a spontaneous find with food simply to die for.  It was snowing, which automatically set the scene.  We pottered around the lower west side for some time, popping in & out of all the quaint little shops.  I found a New York charity shop with a $5 bargain, the 'Economy Candy store' & an array of exciting vintage shops that were just pleasant to browse in.  Every owner of every store immediately greeted you, engaged in conversation & offered their help.  What was interesting, was that, even if you didn't buy anything in their store they still thanked you and bid you farewell.  Something that is not common  in the UK! The finishing touches were carefully thought out, right down to the homemade tote you received your garment in.

Check out my snaps of my highlights in the city that never sleeps...literally.
